Commercial Cannabis Business

Welcome to the City of Hemet’s Commercial Cannabis Business Portal.  This portal is intended to provide information related to the Commercial Cannabis Business (CCB) application program.

In November 2016 California voters passed Proposition 64, known as the Control, Regulate and Tax Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA).  The law provided the state of California a framework for issuing commercial cannabis licenses by January 1, 2018.  It also clarified that cities and counties could prohibit cannabis businesses; or establish regulations that are more restrictive than state law.

On May 11, 2021, the City Council of Hemet adopted Ordinance No. 1977 amending Chapter 18 of the Hemet Municipal Code by adding Article XVI concerning the regulation of Cannabis Businesses.

On August 10, 2021, the City Council of Hemet adopted Resolution 2021-088 establishing review criteria for Commercial Cannabis Businesses.  The City Council also adopted Resolution 2021-089 establishing application fees for Commercial Cannabis Businesses.

On October 12, 2021, the City Council of Hemet adopted Resolution 2021-098 setting Cannabis Business License Tax Rate.
