The City of Hemet announces the retirement of City Manager Mark Prestwich, who will conclude more than 33 years of distinguished public service, including over three years leading the City of Hemet. His retirement will be effective May 4, 2026.
A proud Hemet High School graduate, Prestwich returned to his hometown in 2023 to serve as City Manager, bringing with him decades of leadership experience across California municipalities including Palos Verdes Estates, St. Helena, Nevada City, Sacramento, and Napa.
During his tenure in Hemet, Prestwich helped guide significant progress across the community:
• Public Safety: Investments supported by Measure U helped reduce crime rates below the state average, while advancing tools such as a drone program, expanded camera network, and a Real-Time Information Center.
• Economic Development: Implementation of the “Hemet RISES” strategy and business support programs positioned the City for over $15 million in private investment and strengthened the local economy.
• Infrastructure & Projects: The City delivered $30 million in street improvements, improved road conditions, and completed projects including the Gibbel Skate Plaza and new pickleball courts.
• Community Engagement: Expanded events and programs, including Chalktober, the I Love Hemet Project, and the Summer Concert Series, have increased community pride and participation.
“Mark has made meaningful contributions to the City of Hemet through his leadership and commitment to our community. While I am saddened to see him depart, I am also excited for him as he enters retirement and this next phase of life. He will be greatly missed, and I thank him for his dedicated service,” said Mayor Linda Krupa.
The City of Hemet thanks Mr. Prestwich for his leadership and lasting contributions to the community.
Information regarding next steps and the transition process will be shared in the coming weeks.
