Rebates & Programs
As a State of California Department of Water Resources (DWR) defined urban retail water supplier, the City of Hemet is subject to current and future regulations under the 2017 legislative framework “Making Water Conservation a California Way of Life” (SB 606 and AB 1668). This includes the primary goal of using water more wisely and eliminating water waste. Outdoor landscapes in California use water for irrigation, especially during summer. Outdoor water use is the largest portion of residential water use, especially in warmer climates. While lawns have value for recreation and aesthetics, replacing existing turf lawns with well-designed low-water landscapes that incorporate native and climate-appropriate shrubs, grasses, and trees, along with mulch varieties that replenish the soil and retail water, has many benefits. These benefits include diversifying plant species, lowering irrigation needs, reducing stormwater runoff, and potentially reducing fire risk in fire-prone areas.
