Traffic Signs and Markings

The Streets Division fabricates, installs, and maintains an inventory of over 12,000 regulatory, warning, and directional traffic signs.

All traffic signs are made with high performance retro-reflective sheeting and placed in accordance with uniform local, state and national standards. The average life span of a sign is 10 to 15 years, depending on type and location. The Streets Division sign shop makes several hundred streets signs annually. They also make specialty signs for the City's various internal departments.

Traffic Markings

The division also paints and maintains 350 miles of longitudinal and transverse pavement markings, such as yellow striping, white striping, crosswalks and stop sign legends. This is accomplished by using water-based traffic paints and thermoplastic markings. Currently all streets with longitudinal lines are re-striped every two years.
